Neetu Chandra
|
New Delhi, Actress Neetu Chandra doesn’t like to be called a bold actress and says her much-in-news bathing scene in Jagmohan Mundhra’s “Apartment” is not at all vulgar.
“There is no vulgarity or cheapness in the shower scene. The shot gives an illusion that I am not wearing anything but it is a trick of the camera. It’s an illusion that the filmmakers have created because I wasn’t comfortable shooting otherwise,” Neetu, 25, told IANS in an interview.
The actress, who made an appearance as a temptress on UTV Bindass’ “Emotional Atyachaar” to promote her film, says she feels disturbed when people react strongly to such scenes.
“I play a hostel girl in the movie and in that particular scene I am just thinking about something while bathing. Now this is something so many of us do and can connect with. Besides, you can’t wear a lehenga in the bathroom. What’s realistic cinema then?” said Neetu.
Comparisons are being drawn between her bathing scene and a similar scene by veteran actress Smita Patil in 1980 film “Chakra”.
Commenting upon that, Neetu said: “Back then even Smita Patil knew what she was doing. It’s not wrong. I don’t do films because they have bold scenes. I do bold scenes if the script demands,” she said.
The mention of her being known as a bold actress in Bollywood ticks off Neetu, who drew the ire of Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) activists for her girl-on-girl photo shoot for a magazine last year.
“Where have I done bold roles? I have not done any bold role. In ‘Traffic Signal’, I played a simple girl, in ‘One Two Three’ I played a police officer and was covered in uniform throughout.”
“Then in ‘Oye Lucky! Lucky Oye!’ also I am not wearing revealing clothes and neither have I done anything shocking in ‘Rann’ in which I play a model. So what is bold? Even in ‘Apartment’ this is just a scene which you won’t even care about when you see the film,” she said in an agitated tone.
For Neetu, who has worked in films like “Traffic Signal”, “Oye Lucky! Lucky Oye!”, “13 B” and “Rann”, selecting a project primarily depends on director.
“When a story is narrated and executed – a lot of things change. So for me, it is my director who should be good. Then I see the production house. Luckily, I have worked with some of the best people like Priyadarshan, Mahur Bhandarkar and now will be working with Anees Bazmee and Vipul Shah,” she said.
Among her upcoming movies are “Khusar Prasad Ka Bhoot”, “Love Jaisa Kuch” and Anees Bazmee’s “No Problem”.
Her film “Apartment”, which also features Tanushree Dutta, will release April 23.

Deepika Padukone

New Delhi, Being in front of the camera as a model and then as an actress has taught Deepika Padukone how to give the right shots, but did you know that the 24-year-old is a keen photographer and always carries her camera.
The actress, who was here Wednesday to announce her association with Sony India’s Cyber-shot digital camera range as the brand ambassador, said even though she is not a gadget person, she always carries a camera with her.
“Apart from my mobile phone, I always carry a camera,” Deepika, who came in a copper metallic short dress, told reporters here.
“In fact, it is very important to carry one of these and just capture moments because you never know when, where, what is going to happen and you can capture one of the most beautiful moments and look back at them years later and cherish them,” added the actress.
There is nothing particular that the actress wants to capture. She likes using the camera for anything and everything that excites her.
“I shoot all kinds of things. I shoot people, I shoot if I see something strange or funny. If I find a funny poster somewhere, I shoot that because it brings back old memories,” she said.
Talking about her association with Sony, Deepika said: “It’s (camera) classy, fashionable, sleek, stylish and at the same time very user-friendly and I think these are the qualities that Sony saw in me as a person and I see in them as a brand.
“I eagerly look forward to making a positive contribution to the brand imagery of Cyber-shot cameras and fulfil the expectations from this association,” said Deepika.
She also endorses brands like Levi’s Strauss Signature, Kingfisher Airlines, Tissot watches and BSNL, among others.
Masaru Tamagawa, managing director of Sony India, said: “We were looking for a brand ambassador whose personality could mirror this experience and give it a materialistic form. Deepika is a free spirited, bubbly, young girl who at the same time is extremely talented and a professional.
“The association seemed obvious with so many common factors between Cyber-shot and Deepika which appeal to the youth instantly.”
Tamagawa also revealed that the company will invest Rs.500 million towards marketing activities with Deepika, which include television commercials, print campaigns, outdoor and shop-front display.

New Delhi, Zarine Khan, who made her acting debut opposite Salman Khan in “Veer”, says she owes a lot to the star whom she doesn’t hesitate to call her mentor.
“I am here because of Salman Khan. He is my mentor who discovered me and gave me my first Bollywood break. He has always been very supportive and I owe a lot to him,” Zarine told IANS.
“I never thought that I would become an actress. I wanted to become a doctor, but destiny had something else in store for me. I am happy with the way my life is shaping up,” she added.
The actress was here Wednesday to support “The Body Shop Loves You” campaign.
Before the release of “Veer” she was referred to as Katrina Kaif’s look alike. But Zarine says post the film, people have started recognising her.
“It’s fair enough if people compare me to her (Katrina). She is a beautiful woman and I take the compliment in a positive manner. Frankly speaking, after ‘Veer’, people have started recognising me as Zarine Khan,” said the 25-year-old actress.
Though Zarine has not signed any new movie as of now, she is keen on doing a movie that gives her potential to perform.
“Talks are on for my next film, but nothing has been confirmed as of now. Will let you know whenever it happens. Also, I want to work in a movie that gives me scope to perform. I don’t want to run around trees,” explained Zarine.
So any favourite actors she would like to work with?
“Oh, I am so new in the industry and all these actors you want me to name have been in the industry for a long time now. So I would like to work with all of them because there will be so much to learn from everybody,” she said.
According to Zarine, the journey so far has been interesting and she is liking every bit of attention.

Pankh

PANKH plays with your mind. PANKH is centered in Bollywood. PANKH supposedly throws a new light into the Hindi film industry. About how pushy mothers can push their daughters too far and even make their boy play a girl. PANKH is one such story of a mother who failed to make it big, abuses her husband for getting her pregnant and pushes her five-year-old son to play a girl. In turn, baby Kusum is a star. Twenty years later, Jerry (baby Kusum) is now a man and wants to make it big like he did when he was a kid. His mother is over ambitious to the point of being repulsive. Their relationship is so spooky that it makes you stare at the screen in disgust. One scene has Jerry flashing himself at his mother (sic) because she calls him a hijra.
PANKH also has this mysterious woman, Nandini, appearing before Jerry. They both have intense conversations. It appears, she is just a figment of his imagination.

sania mirza

When news that tennis sensation Sania Mirza is all set to marry Pakistani cricketer Shoaib Malik broke yesterday, it took the nation by surprise. Though Sania's much-publicised engagement to childhood friend Mohammed Sohrab Mirza was called off in March, her relationship with Malik was kept under the wraps.
As the media went abuzz with reports of Sania and Shoaib's engagement, which were later denied by Sania's family, Farisa Siddiqui, the mother of Ayesha Siddiqui, the Hyderabadi girl who the cricketer was allegedly married to in 2002 was shocked.
'Breaking news'"This is breaking news for me. I can't believe what TV channels are airing. I will speak to Sania's mother and get a confirmation about the marriage. I am shocked," Farisa told MiD DAY from her Banjara Hills residence.
When asked about Ayesha's reaction to Shoaib tying the knot, Farisa said, "My daughter and husband are not at home and will return later today. There is too much happening for me to comprehend."
The family had pressed the player to give a formal divorce in February 2008, after Shoaib claimed that there was no 'nikah' between Ayesha and him.
According to Ayesha's mother, she attended Sania's engagement last July and was invited by Sohrab's family, "I'm not associated with the Mirzas (Sania's family) in anyway." Farisa was not just upset, but also angry about the Sania-Shoaib alliance. "I can't believe this girl (Sania). She has seen what happened to my daughter, it was all over the news. Despite this she got involved with this man (Shoaib). It's sad that she's getting married to him; it's strange," she said, adding that she would have a word with Sohrab's family to find out why the engagement with Sania was called off.
Malik on Twitter Thanks for all your support. And the news of me marrying to Sania is true. Inshallah will get married in April.
